The safety and well-being of the children here at Prince of Wales is our first priority.  Children cannot learn unless they feel happy, safe and secure.  We follow rigorous Safeguarding procedures to protect the welfare of all the children who come here. If you are concerned about the welfare of any pupil in the school then please arrange an appointment to speak to one of our Safeguarding team below.

What to do if a child makes a disclosure:

Do:

(1) Listen to the child: do not interrupt the child if they are recounting a significant event freely. Any questions that may be needed to clarify what is being said should be framed in an open way and not to lead the child.
(2) Speak immediately and directly to a member of the Safeguarding Team.
Record what has been said on a safeguard (or for some staff who do not have access to safeguard – record on a cause for concern sheet. These can be found in the medical room. This should be done as soon as reasonably possible, but within 24 hours and passed on to one of the designated safe guarding leads.
The cause for concern form should record:
(a) the time
(b) the date
(c) the place
(d) the people present
(e) what was said

Don’t:

Remember – never promise a child that you will not share what they have told you.
If you are not sure if a child has made a serious disclosure always speak to a designated member of staff.
