Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

EYFS Vision

In the Early Years Foundation Stage at Prince of Wales Primary School, our ambitious curriculum is designed to reflect the interests and needs of our children and immerse them into a language rich environment. We prioritise high quality interactions, punctuated with adult focused activities where appropriate. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progression, building on children’s prior knowledge, resulting in children being able to know more and do more. In Early Years we are committed to developing positive relationships in a safe and nurturing environment.

A Stimulating Learning Environment

Through our well-planned curriculum children have the opportunity to explore a wide range of themes and texts. The learning spaces are carefully designed to reflect the themes we are learning as well as children’s current interests. Our classrooms are stocked with high-quality resources and designed to inspire children’s imaginations, creating an environment that supports active, hands-on learning.

We have bespoke Nursery and Reception gardens which have high quality resources where children can explore the natural world around them. In addition to our gardens, we also have our own field provision where children can experience growing fruit and vegetables in the allotments, riding bikes and improving their gross motor skills on a selection of climbing apparatus.

Love of Reading

At POW, we believe in the transformative power of books and reading. Each classroom has cosy reading corners where children can share books with their friends and teachers. Story time is a valuable daily session where children can experience a wide range of stories.

Music

At POW children have the opportunity to explore music to support their cognitive and communication skills. In each classroom there is a range of musical instruments. In Reception children have discreet weekly music lessons.

PE

Children have the opportunity to engage in physical development daily though a wide range of bespoke equipment. In Reception, children have a weekly PE lesson which is taught by specialist PE coaches.

Trips and Visitors

In the Early Years we value experiences and opportunities for children to learn beyond the classroom. We offer a wide range of experiences including visitors from the local community where children can learn first-hand about different roles in the community.
