Year 5

Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome you all back to the new school year. The children have returned looking smart in their school uniform with their homework completed including some wonderful, creative dreamcatchers. We want our children to visualise what their future could be and what they will need to do to realise their dreams. Many of the children have done interesting activities during the holiday and were keen to share their experiences with others. Sharing events with our family and friends is one of the most enjoyable ways of learning.
Most of the children are reading a range of books both at home and school and have made an excellent start to the term. Almost every child has had their reading record signed every day and a number of children took part in the Summer Reading Challenge. Well done to those children.
There is an expectation that all children know their times tables by the beginning of Year 5 and most children have achieved their tables badge. This year we are continuing with this but I am also introducing a new badge-I can apply my tables. This will include a Mastermind test including multiplication, division, factors and problems involving tables. This should challenge the children further so the tables have more relevance as well as keeping the tables alive.
We value the partnership we have with you and look forward to meeting you all on Tuesday 19 September at 9am for the Meet the Teacher morning. This is a chance to meet all the staff in Year 5 and to learn about the expectations for this year. We shall also provide an overview of the curriculum and you will have the chance to find out about some of the new opportunities they will be given as Year 5 children. Teachers are also available every Wednesday to see you after school to discuss any aspect of your child’s progress or any concerns you may have.

Kind regards,
Julia Clarke
