Year 3

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back after a hopefully restful Christmas break.  I was pleased to learn that many year 3 children had completed set homework and done it well, and brought it in on time. It was also pleasing to learn that many had also read regularly over the holiday.  That is good news. I hope you were able to spend some quality time together as a family and were able to give your child the best gift of all, your time. The children have come back to school with a positive attitude and this is essential as this term we hope and need to see good progress in all areas of their learning.

As ever, reading will be a big focus this term. Each class will hold a reading café for parents this term so that parents can come along and support their child, see how we use books and have some fun also. Please attend these if you can. Most of our children are reading every night but not always does the reading record book get home, get signed, or come back to school. Can we work together on this, in order to allow our children to really push on with this vital skill.  Sadly, the response to the summer reading challenge by current year 3 pupils was very low, so please encourage your child to go to the library, go with them, and be involved in another way with their reading.  It will pay off.  Parents attendance at the last parent evening was good, so let’s see if it can be better this time. You need to know how your child is getting on. If you don’t attend the next parent evening or consultations, we will be contacting you to see when you can see your child’s class teacher for a proper sit down and discuss their progress and what can help further. However, please don’t wait until a Parent Evening or Consultation to discuss any concerns you may have..-contact the class teacher or myself at any time.

Please have a look at this terms curriculum on the sheet with this letter. It’s basically what your child will be working on up to Easter.  Please support them and the school in all they do. A healthy home/school partnership is vital to a child’s progress and development

I wish you all a happy New Year and am looking forward to working with you again this year.

Kind regards,
Mr A Taylor.

In science, we have been finding out about Forces.  We tried running with large pieces of paper and held windmills in the wind.

Then we tested different materials to see which ones were magnetic.  There were a few surprises.
