Welcome back all, after a sunny and restful Easter holiday. I was pleased to learn that many year 3 children had completed set homework and done it well, and brought it in on time. Some was good enough to show Mr Bless, who was impressed. It was also pleasing to learn that many had also read regularly over the holiday. That is good news. I also hope you were able to spend some quality time together as a family and were able to give your child the best gift of all, your time. Many year 3 children have come back to school with a positive attitude and this is essential as this term we hope, and need, to see good progress in all areas of their learning.
As ever, reading will continue to be a big focus. We notice that many children are quite good at taking their home reading record home, and bringing it back…but when we look at the record, they have not actually read or had the record signed. In our partnership with you in your child’s learning, please understand how important this is that your child reads regularly, and that you are involved in that. Some have done many accelerated reading tests, which obviously shows in their ability to use print more effectively. Many also are now really trying hard with the presentation of their work and their handwriting, and quite a few have reached a standard where they have earned a pen licence and are now writing regularly with a pen.
Each class will hold café for parents this term again, and this will be with a difference as they will be outside. You may have seen the tents outside the year 3 area. Our cafes will be held there, to aid focus on outdoor learning, which, as a school, we are very interested in promoting. The café will focus on this issue, so please come along and enjoy supporting your child, see how we use the outdoor areas and have some fun also. There will be another Ocean maths session to look forward to also. Please attend these if you can. Parents attendance at the last parent evening was quite good, so let’s see if it can be better this time. You need to know how your child is getting on, and then how you can help them further at home. However, please don’t wait until a Parent Evening or Consultation to discuss any concerns you may have..-contact the class teacher or myself at any time.
Please have a look at this terms year 3 curriculum map on the website. It’s basically what your child will be working on up to the end of their year 3 time. Please support them and the school in all they do. A healthy home/school partnership is vital to a child’s progress and development.
